28 Jun G Love Kicks Off Running of the Bull Weekend
The Starboard Restaurant is known for throwing the best parties in Dewey Beach, and bringing in world class musical acts. On July 7th, G. Love comes back to the boards in Dewey to kick off what can only be described as one of the biggest weekends in Dewey Beach History. Worlds collide as G. Love comes to town just two nights before the 20th annual Running of the Bull, so get your dancing shoes ready and your party hat securely fastened for this awesome sandwich of events.
This year marks the 10th year that G. Love will play The Starboard for an annual free show. Most locals are familiar with the partnership between G. Love and The Starboard owner, Steve “Monty” Montgomery, who forged a friendship years ago after G. Love wandered into the restaurant after playing another gig locally.
The two formed a natural friendship and discovered they share an open-hearted philosophy when it comes to music and entertainment. G. Love has the sound, and Montgomery has the venue, so why not team up and give the people a free show they can enjoy in the best small beach town? That’s what they did back then, and although the landscape has changed, this annual concert has remained the same.
This year is special, though, because it marks that 10th anniversary and then follows with the 20th Annual Bull Run weekend. Montgomery knows it’ll go by in a blink, much like the last couple of decades. “It’s a big weekend.” Montgomery says, “Basically, we’ve created a new holiday weekend with the Running of the Bulls, and with G. Love coming, it gives extra excitement for the weekend.”
G. Love enjoys playing in Dewey just as much as the fans do. He’s got family in town here, and playing a small town gig while he’s here is always a good time. There are familiar faces in the crowd, and for a musician who tours often, that feeling of home is not taken for granted. On the heels of his new album, you know this show is gonna be fresh and full of G. Love’s special sound.
Come on down and start your Bull Run weekend with a bang. G. Love’s set starts promptly at 10PM, and his opener from the national tour begins at9PM. The Starboard is always packed with people and anticipation, so come early and relax as you wait to vibe out to the smooth acoustic sound of G. Love.
