Hurricane Irene!
I am so relieved to report that the town of Dewey Beach, as well as Rehoboth and Bethany, got extremely lucky with the passing of Hurricane Irene last weekend. If the worst thing to happen was that all of us lost a summer weekend, we can certainly live with that!! We were very fortunate as what was predicted was scary, each of us prepared thoroughly and escaped unscathed! For The Starboard, we have to replace a TV or two, put back up the awnings we took down, stock up, and then fire this place up for what we hope is the greatest Labor Day Weekend EVER! Shown are a few pictures of how it looked here in Dewey, the only major damage was a tornado (pictured) that took out many homes in neighboring Lewes; we wish them all the best as that was awful, and are thankful nothing like that came through Dewey Beach.
Labor Day Weekend!
After this past week of concentrating on the hurricane, we are more ready than any other Labor Day in recent years to fire this one up! Hopefully everyone can take a 'sick day' and get down here on Thursday night after missing all of last weekend. We will be raring to go after so much down time.

Our DJ's & bands are lined up, our coolers are packed, the kitchen is stocked, and we're excited to do what we do best... throw an incredible party all weekend long! The weather is absolutely the BEST of the year right now... sunny and 80's all weekend, and cool at night! Enjoy!

The Crushers are ready for crushing this weekend as this will be the last huge blowout 'til our Closing Party in November. Though we still have some great weekends planned for September, with more and more of you keeping
your rental houses deep into that month, this is the last hurrah
of Summer weekends!

Join us on Saturday, Suicide Sunday, and Monday!
Plenty of drinks on labor day weekend!
See you all this weekend; make plans to get down early as you owe it to yourselves after losing a full weekend! Thanks so much for an incredible summer, it was fun for all of us on every level, on a personal note, I can't thank my own staff here at The Starboard enough, as they have been awesome! I can see why so many customers always tell me we have the BEST Staff in Dewey Beach... 'cause they truly are incredible!

Touching news from Afghanistan...
I wanted to share the story, some pictures and an email from a few loyal Starboard regulars who are currently serving our country over in Afghanistan. It is touching to know how special
The Starboard and Dewey Beach are to so many, even those who are over 7,000 miles away! Below is the email and pictures I received this week, I sent them some Starboard goodies several weeks ago to do what little I could to put a smile on their faces.

Our sign looks great at night!
  Monty,

I wanted to send these to you before I departed for mid-tour leave. We had a saw problem and had to wait several weeks to get the saw blade fixed before we could continue. It is not easy fixing a saw blade when the nearest Lowes is 7,000 miles away. So, we got it fixed and finished the sign. We took a lot of pictures but these are just a few. We had several guys working on it and it only cost us 5 stitches to one thumb. The sign looks wonderful and is completely made of plywood. It will actually come apart in three pieces so we can take it with us. We hung it on our command post and put string lights behind it and it looks great at night!

We did receive the package! THANK YOU SO MUCH! Everyone loves the sun visors and tee shirts! I do have the Starboard flag for you and it did fly on a mission but I need to get a better picture so more to follow. Again, thank you so much! The sign is now the talk of the FOB (Forward Operating Base) that we live on. Even the FOB commander, a Lieutenant Colonel stated that he was impressed with it. Last night, some random guy (US Military Soldier) walked by our CP and asked if that was the Starboard in Dewey Beach and of course we told him yes. He stated that he met his wife there several years ago. He was from VA and she was from MD and they met in Dewey.

Thanks for everything,
Mark
