INSANITY...that is the best way to describe this past weekend here in Dewey Beach. Every year seems like Memorial Day gets bigger and bigger here in Dewey Beach. I feel safe in saying that every business in Dewey has a successful weekend, and in watching so many of you let your hair down...I think the same can be said for you all having a great weekend!

The Starboard was no exception to the craziness that played out in Dewey this past weekend, setting our all time single day sales record on Sunday...a day in which there were lines to get in the place by 9:30am! I apologize to those of you with VIP cards on Sunday morning that we did not use our VIP entrance, as we try as hard as we can to keep a full dining room to serve breakfast, and did not move those tables out to make more room 'til most people got their breakfast. For those of you in line...I did my best to work the lines, handing out bottled water, ham & egg sandwiches, etc... as I truly appreciate the dedication so many of you have to The Starboard, and thank you for baring with us with such huge crowds this weekend.

Just some fun information for you on what The Starboard's Top Sellers were over this past Memorial Day weekend. Of course our house vodka, which we use the fine Smirnoff rather than some plastic cheap vodka, headed the list. Next was almost an exact tie, with Miller Lite and Bud Light selling almost the same amount...then came our Crushes...with the Orange and Grapefruit crushes both edging out our own house Bullshark by a hair. It is always fun to see what people are drinking...so it looks like a CRUSH kind of summer, which is why we are happy to offer several great ones for you...Grapefruit, Orange, and now our Mango Crushes! The arrival of the Grape and Iced Tea crush is making a push as well.

Things should quiet back down drastically compared with this past weekend, but these are the weekends where The Starboard shines. We will have our fabulous bar staff in its entirety to hopefully get a little more face time with you this weekend, while continuing our Cover Charge Free policy so that you can come enjoy The Starboard all weekend, without paying to do so!

Our good friends at GROTTO PIZZA are teaming up with The Starboard each and every Friday from here on out as both Businesses celebrate our 50th year in business here at the beach. They will bring their incredible Pizza Mobile to The Starboard and bring you slices of their famous pizza for only $1 from 5-8pm each Friday. Miller Brewing will offer their beers at just $2 for High Life Lights, and $3 for Miller Lites! We have all your favorite activities available, from Beer Pong, to Jenga, to Big Buck Hunter, Ping Pong, etc...so that you can relax with some inexpensive Grottos & Miller Lite, and enjoy the start to a great weekend! We thank Grottos for joining us and hope you will stop by as well on Friday Happy Hours...we call 'em "Pie Eyed Fridays!"

Of course our biggest sales day in history happened to fall on our famous Suicide Sunday. People seem more pumped up for our Sunday-Funday tradition than ever. Doug Segree is back on deck for his 11th summer with us...and our World Famous Bloody Mary Bar is ready and waiting...oh yea...then there are those dangerous Crushes!! Elvis joins us each Sunday for a little Breakfast with Elvis around Noon...so see you guys this Sunday as we continue to crank up our 50th season of Suicide Sundays!

You guys probably understand this twitter stuff better than me, but we now have the ability to send you text messages, etc...on the happenings at The Starboard instantly through Twitter. Such as the secret concert we are planning for a Saturday in June...the only way you would be able to be notified on an event like this would be via twitter-text. Click here to sign up for our Twitter notification list!
Thanks again to you all for a fantastic Memorial Day Weekend, thanks for the loyalty to The Starboard, and we will see all that make it back down here to Dewey on this short work week again very soon!

| DEWEY BEACH NEWS |
I tried to warn everyone last weekend about the increased fees in town this year. Due to the budget crisis this town is facing, and the fact this town does not have a property tax...the brunt of paying the town's operating costs fall on its businesses, transfer taxes, and visitors.
The town has recently passed an ordinance to add a 3% rental tax, so any of you that have rented for the season may have seen this go into effect as it passed through state legistlation last week prior to Memorial Day. Parking permits, fines, etc...have all increased to what most all feel are totally unacceptable amounts for a town that says it wants to be "Tourist Friendly" however our council had to make some very difficult decisions on this stuff as the town lost over $800,000 with the downturn in transfer taxes due to lack of home sales.
So PLEASE just be careful where you park in town, cause I HATE seeing those tow trucks taking good people's cars away when you park in front of some of our "hidden" fire hydrants. The Starboard is paying for some landscaping this week to put posts in front of most all fire hydrants, so that it will be virtually impossible to park where one may get towed.
For those of you that own property in this town, and wish to be kept up on what is going on in Dewey Beach, please feel free to send me your email so I can add it to a seperate mailing list as we may need your votes this fall to keep Dewey Beach the way we all love it! You can send me your email to Monty@TheStarboard.com |
